be sure when packing for your move to keep essential items for your pets handy. remember to set aside there food any medications they may need and toys. therefore making the transition less stressful and daunting on them.

If your animals are stressed out from moving and don’t like the car. Try contacting your local vet and have them prescribe something to help them relax.

 WHAT TO DO WITH PETS WHEN MOVING – MOVING DAY

Moving day has arrived! you want to make sure your furry friends are safe and sound. Don’t let them run free throughout your home. This can pose a tripping hazard to your movers, as dogs and cats can get under your feet. The best thing to do on moving day is to keep a room free in your house for your dogs or cats to stay in, move all the furniture out of that room so your movers have access to all your furniture.

In doing this you will ensure that your beloved pets don’t make a dash for the door as this will be open for movers to carry your goods onto the truck. Alternatively you can organise for them to be kept at a friends place while the move is happening.

TRAVELLING WITH YOUR PET

take your pet to your new home in your own vehicle if possible. You can do this by putting your dog or cat in a carrier and securing the carrier in a seatbelt. Taking your pet in your own car when moving can be more soothing to them, as they will have a familiar scent being in their owners car. Some pets feel more at home when you cover there carrier with a blanket so they don’t see the environment changing while traveling.

DON’T LET THEM OUT UNTILL ARRIVAL AT YOUR NEW HOME

When moving pets, make sure you don’t let them out to early. Be sure to make sure they are inside your new home and that no doors are left open. You don’t want them to do the dash on you! Even if your pet is normally well behaved, the change in environment can confuse our pets.

Tip for cat owners, we suggest keeping them inside for the first few days. Make sure to make them feel comfortable in their new home before letting them outside.

HAVE A ROOM READY IN YOUR NEW HOME

Make sure to move the house, then move your pet. Having a room set up and ready for them on arrival to confine them. this will make it less confusing for your companion, making things a lot less big, new, and confusing all at once. Grab that overnight kit and be sure they have some treats, toys and there blankets/beds on hand so they can relax and settle in.

LOTS OF LOVE & ATTENTION

Provide pets with lots of attention once in the new home, be sure to stay with them for a period to make sure they settle in well and have their best friend with them to make the final adjustment easier on them.

CHANGE THEIR INFORMATION

When moving with your pets, don’t forget to update vital information. such as the information on collars and microchips.

MOVING WITH FISH

moving with fish is a difficult thing to do. Fish can get stressed from moving just like us, a good idea is to get prepared. Visit local aquarium store for supplies to help with moving your pet fish. Use water from fish tank to transport them. Be sure to pack them into their containers/ plastic bags as late as you can while still having time to empty and transport their home.

Unfortunately fish don’t travel long distance so well so we recommend giving them to a friend if you are moving interstate or overseas.

MOVING WITH GUNIEA PIGS / RABBITS

Guinea pigs and rabbits are quite small and fragile animals and are know to have quite weak hearts. Be sure to take extra care when moving with guinea pigs or rabbits and make sure they are comfortable. Be sure to practice putting them in there cage for the weeks leading up to the move. And on move day provide them with treats in their cage while travelling to help sooth them.

MOVING WITH BIRDS

Birds actually don’t mind getting in the car and being able to see outside as there are quite inquizitive and naturally have the freedom of flying. Although when travelling in the car, be sure the temperature is right as the are susceptible to warm or cold climate. Get them use to the cage they will be traveling in and provide them with water and treats during transit.
